Did you guys ever think, may be, Kate didn’t get the offer at all?
I don’t mean she is not a good cop. She is a good cop, an extraordinary cop. I have no doubt that Kate would be fully prepared for the interview, like Agency’s mission, structure, jurisdiction etc. But I think there is a chance, that when some hard questions were asked, she would be hesitated to answer, like “What did you want from yr career in law enforcement?”, because she haven’t ask herself much about her career. And it’s an interview from a federal agency, not NYPD. The interview would be tough, and the competition would be at a high level. One mistake could take away your chance to join the agency. So when everyone is discussing whether Kate would leave or not, I think we need to take a step backward, and asked ourself, “What if she didn’t got the job offer?”
Before Castle, she had been focusing her life on solving her mother’s murder. And since “Always”, she had been focusing on her relationship with Castle. She didn’t think much about her career. She don’t know what she want, because she had chose to live her life, and her relationship with Castle had reached a plateau. Because of those touch questions in the interview, She must ask herself, what she does she want from her life, besides having a life with Castle? Castle had shown her that her life didn’t need to solely depends on her mother’s murder, she can do what she want as a free person. But she didn’t know what she can do, because she never think about it, and Castle never ask her anything about it.
And Castle need to get out of the comfort zone, asking himself what did he want from that relationship, what does he want in his career. He need to know Beckett is different from the women she met in the past. He had trust issues, and he need to get through it in order to get what he want.
So “Human Factor” and “Watershed” is a journey of soul searching for Castle and Beckett, just like what AM had been teasing, and written on the synopsis. It’s a time for them to face the truth, asking themselves some hard questions, having a honest and open discussion about their lives, their future. It’s not about breakup or departure, but a self-recognition, facing the true real world, a course for Castle and Beckett to find out what they want from each other, and from their relationship, and what they should do.
And because of Kate’s bombshell of “considering a job offer in DC”, the gang had to think about their future too, finding out what they want in the future. Thus AM teased, that “The finale could potentially change everyone’s lives forever”. But if lead characters and the co-stars need to do a soul searching in this season, I think they would be in a tough situation next yr, or in later seasons, that they need their trust and love of each other to get through it.
Of course, there will be moments of confusion and misunderstanding, because they’re still finding out what they want; but there will be moments of joy and happiness, because they had found the common goal of their life, the life that they want, and the one they will fight for it in the future. And that’s why AM’s tease and synopsis are not focusing on whether Kate would be leaving or not, because there is a chance that she may not get the offer, or she knew that she had screwed up the interview.
So I think the cliffhanger will be, Kate didn’t get the offer, but finally finding out what she want from Castle, herself, and her career. And Castle, still in the dark for Kate’s failure, propose to Kate to keep her there, because he know what he want, and what he should be doing. And we would only know Kate’s answer until season 6.
mkkh:
Honestly, I think we can all safely say Andrew is not going to break up Caskett? Where would the show go if he did? The first four seasons consisted of the ‘will they, won’t they’ tension that we all fell in love with and kept us watching the show. If Kate does accept the job in DC and Castle…
I agree with you on the possibly-coming proposal. But I think it would be hasty and rush, and Beckett will say no, because she would feel it as a excuse to make her stay, not really want to marry her. And Castle won’t take rejection well, so the beginning of season six would be Kate try her best to smooth Castle’s pain.
On the other hand,I think a surprised pregnancy is possible. But it’s not Beckett’s pregnancy, but Alexis pregnancy. Beckett treated Alexis like she is her own daughter. If Alexis got pregnant, Kate would offer her support to Alexis and Castle, especially she know Castle would be a mess. But at the same time, it would be a push to Kate, to show what is important to her, a family. (I do think Castle would say sth stupid and wrong, which push Kate to leave in the first half of the ep. We have 45 mins of drama, and it won’t be a drama if everything resolve in the first 15 mins…)
Btw, what do you mean by “Kate hasn’t had coffee in three episodes”?? We had seen Castle gave her coffee in “Still” and “TSATQ”, Besides, Kate had champagne with Vaughn in “TSATQ”. I don’t think pregnant woman could drink champagne…
For the finale, I think Caskett would either stay together in NY, or stay together in DC. I don’t think they will separate, and I don’t think Caskett would work in a long distance relationship, at their current status.
Beckett is right in TSATQ, Castle didn’t trust her. Castle had trust issue. He had no problem trusting Beckett, professionally. But he didn’t trust Beckett as much when it comes to personal or relationship issues. He won’t tell her much about himself. He shut people out when the problem is personal. The best example is “Hunt” and “Target”, which Castle went to Paris alone to save Alexis. While some people may say Castle went rouge because he was worried and desperated , but I think it also implies that Castle didn’t trust Beckett that would save Alexis in time. He got burnt so many times in the past, from Kyra, to Meredith, and possibly Beckett. (especially the secrets they kept from each other) Castle need to learn, learn to trust Beckett, to open up to her.
Long distance relationship is not easy. It requires high level of trust. They need to work through lots of issues, temptation, jealousy, intimacy. No way it would work for Caskett in their current relationship status, when the image of Vaughn kissing Kate was still burnt into Castle’s mind. If so, they would break up eventually. Castle just start to learn how to trust Beckett enough to open up to her, and suddenly he had the trust to start a long term relationship with her? That’s a HUGE character growth, a huge leap, and it is rare for AM to do that.
But I think it would happen in the later seasons, especially when AM revisit the JB case. As Bracken has decided to run for presidency, it would required federal level of resources to take him down. Since AM announced that he would revisit the case next yr, I think it would be a good chance for them to start long term relationship, as Castle had time to build his trust with Beckett, and they know they are on the same page of their relationship. They would still have issues, but they will be closer, stronger than what they’re now. The long distance relationship would sound realistic and convincing.
But still, there is still a chance of starting a long distance relationship in this season finale. As Castle said, “Any relationship that lasts longer than a breath mint is gonna have challenges, but if a relationship doesn’t work out, it’s usually not because of the challenges. It’s usually because the relationship wasn’t strong enough to begin with.”, and “if two people believe in something, really believe, anything even the impossible is possible ” We know how much AM love foreshadowing……
It’s my personal interpretation, you may have different opinions. And sorry for ranting it here. But please, stay positive. AM already said, “I Have No Intention of Pulling the Rug Out From the Audience”
